Too much sleep: causes and treatments – Part 2
Too much sleep: causes and treatments – Part 2
Use of medication
The use of certain drugs, such as antihistamines, muscle
relaxants, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, lithium, antiparkinsonians or
cardiovascular drugs, for example, can cause drowsiness, which is more
noticeable during the day.
If drowsiness is excessive, you should speak to your
doctor to replace the medication if possible and is warranted.
Use of substances that promote sleep
Consuming sleep-promoting foods and herbs during the day,
such as passion fruit, valerian, or lemon balm, for example, can leave people
feeling more relaxed and sleepy, and can compromise daily activities.
In these cases, you should avoid ingesting these
substances during the day.
Sleep apnea
Sleep apnea makes it difficult to breathe at night, which
can lead to recurring nighttime awakenings, a feeling of not restful sleep,
tiredness during the day, and difficulty concentrating.
Treatment can be done with the use of a special device
and lifestyle changes.
You should check with your doctor.
